But over the years, the universe of “Star Wars” has expanded far beyond the realm originally imagined by George Lucas. The title of the latest “Star Wars” series, “Ahsoka,” premiering Aug. 23 on Disney+, may be unfamiliar even for viewers who consider themselves relatively knowledgeable about the franchise. The title character, played by Rosario Dawson in the series, has never appeared in a live-action “Star Wars” movie. (She was heard briefly in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” voiced by Ashley Eckstein.) A certain familiarity with the rest of the stuff that has happened in “Star Wars” outside of the three main film trilogies is, if not quite required, then certainly very helpful.

Protesters attend a demonstration on Kaplan Street against the Israeli government’s plan to overhaul the justice system on July 11, 2023 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Fresh protests in Israel over a controversial judicial overhaul will deliver a significant slowdown to the country's economy, according to former central bank Deputy Governor Zvi Eckstein. It has also led to a "huge reduction" in investments in Israel's high technology sector, which is a linchpin of the Israeli economy, he said. "Most of the growth of the Israeli economy, about 40%, was generated by the high tech sector," said Eckstein, highlighting that there is currently an 80% decline in investment in the country's startup and growth companies. Israel's fintech sector, as well as enterprise IT, posted the biggest declines, plunging more than 80% year-on-year, the report also showed.

Some Gen Zers fear that asking about work-life balance in interviews could harm their job prospects. Gen Zers shared their warning signs when job hunting, including unclear goals and a "bonus day." Preston Jacobson, a 24-year-old working in retail management, said he left his job in February because it lacked a proper work-life balance. "Instead of just asking folks about the work-life balance, I would ask employees what they do outside of work," he said. Do you have something to share about navigating a work-life balance as a member of Gen Z, as a millennial, or as a part of another generation?

The company launched a limited test Tuesday to see if its streaming subscribers will buy up exclusive merchandise themed to Disney+ shows and films. Until Nov. 8, subscribers have access to a handful of products from Star Wars, "Black Panther," "Lightyear" and "Frozen" before the general public is given access. Disney's test comes just before the busy holiday season and as the streaming wars continue to intensify. But with growth slowing, offering perks such as early access to exclusive merchandise could lure in new subscribers or keep current ones from leaving. Customers can make purchases on the ShopDisney website or by scanning a QR code within Disney+ with their smartphones.
CNN —Animation has been the driving creative force behind the “Star Wars” universe for some time, a state of affairs cast into sharper focus by how live-action series Lucasfilm has produced for Disney+ have drawn upon those shows. That relationship continues with “Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi,” an animated anthology that provides an opportunity to flesh out the stories of peripheral but familiar lightsaber-wielding figures. The anthology format creates the opportunity to drop in at different inflection points scattered across the “Star Wars” timeline. Animation has also become a vehicle for greater experimentation, as witnessed in the “Star Wars: Visions” anime shorts that premiered last year. “Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi” premieres October 26 on Disney+.
